Target audience: 10-12 year old children
This activity was designed to stretch the children and build up their teamwork, problem solving skills and perseverance.
The children were taught how to use a lensatic compass as well as how to estimate distance with the pacing method. The idea was to expose them to a new skill, and teach focus and patience at the same time.
At each check point, the children had to work as a team to accomplish tasks. This was to illustrate that every individual has strengths, is worthy and valuable.
Despite the heat, complaints and team quarrels along the journey, the children completed the treasure hunt with a sense of achievement, and a greater understanding of what it means to know that every individual is worthy, and when we all work as a team and persevere, much can be accomplished.
